Shut up and Write Session

Join Kim every TUESDAY for a “Shut up and Write!” session from 13:30-15:30 in Room 401, (Tennenbacherstr.4).  Writing side-by-side with your GS peers will help you focus.  Tea and coffee provided.  Kim’s also offering to review pieces of student writing for structure and English flow during these sessions.  If you have a piece of nearly finished writing you would like to have some feedback on, with a view to strengthening your academic writing in English, please email Kim.


GradSchool LUNCH

 

Every first TUESDAY of the month at 12:30.  Meet your GS group and enjoy a subsidized vegetarian lunch from the popular Thai Isan Rose Restaurant. We sit together in the lounge on level 2, opposite Esther´s and Kim´s office (room 02 045). Cost to students 3€. Registration for Tuesday, June 4, open until Monday,  2 pm.

Focus Session Middle of the Road


This 4-hour-workshop is designed to refocus you when you're around halfway through your PhD journey by setting aside some dedicated time to reflect on how you are managing your PhD and yourself, and where you could make improvements - there's still time!
 

Topics:

  • The mid-thesis blues: common challenges & strategies
  • Inventory 360degrees: where are you at? Reflect on your PhD progress, supervisory relationships, publishing/dissemination, researcher development and personal wellbeing
  • Thesis 2.0 goals
  • 12 month plan of action: Project management + publishing, Researcher development, Building networks
 
Facilitated plenary and peer-to-peer-coaching sessions will be incorporated. Please bring your laptop/diaries etc so that you can get the most out of the workshop and leave with renewed focus.

We'll finish the workshop with lunch together - sandwiches provided.

Publication and Review Process

This workshop will demystify the publishing process by covernig the following topics:
How academic journals are working; how to select a journal;  what to expect from a peer-review process, and how to respond to peer-reviews and resubmit your work.
